Fall Semester

Start of Fall Semester

Fall 2026

Bringing a vehicle to campus may not be necessary. Consider other transportation options.

All vehicles parked on campus must:

  • Be registered with the university through purchase of an IU Parking Permit.
  • Park with either a state-issued license plate or an IU License Plate Recognition plate facing the driving lane.

Starting Aug. 1, IU students may purchase parking permits online. Bursar billing is the only payment option for permits available to students. All permit options available will be displayed in the purchase portal.

Available Permits:

  • Campus housing (CH) – Virtual permit
  • Student (ST) – Virtual permit
  • Evening

If purchasing an Evening pass, enter your full local address (on- or off-campus), including room or apartment number. After purchase, you'll receive a confirmation email with a link to a temporary permit that can be used immediately until your hangtag arrives.

Campus Housing permits

  • Students selected for a 2026 CH permit will receive notification through their IU email addresses starting Friday, Aug. 14 and will continue to be made each Friday until all permits are purchased.
    • Note: Parking cannot provide information about an individual’s place on the waitlist as the selection is a random draw.
  • CH permit purchases must be completed online before the offer expiration deadline indicated in the offer email.
  • The CH permit will be your license plate and will not be valid for use until Thursday, August 20. No physical hangtag will be mailed.
  • Enforcement of a valid CH permit will begin in all CH zones starting Monday, Aug. 24.

If you don’t receive a CH offer, check your IU email every Friday in August. If no offer is received by Aug. 22, and you plan to have a vehicle on campus, you will need to purchase a Student (ST) permit for valid parking at the ST zones.

Student (ST) permits

  • The ST permit will be your license plate and will not be valid immediately upon purchase. No physical hangtag will be mailed.
  • Enforcement of valid ST permit will begin in all ST zones starting Monday, Aug. 24.
    • Note: It is not necessary to purchase or keep an ST permit if you have purchased or are offered a CH permit. In addition to the CH zone, the CH permit also provides all permissions that an ST permit will provide
  • If you are offered a CH permit after your purchase of an ST permit, you may request a refund of the ST permit for a refund

Evening permits

  • Evening permits will be mailed via USPS. Be sure to accurately enter your full mailing address.
  • Evening permits must be displayed in non 24hr EMP, EMS and ST zones starting Monday, Aug 24.
    • Note: It is not necessary to purchase an Evening permit if you have already purchased a CH or ST. These permits also provide all permissions that an Evening permit will provide.
