Resources for walkers
Campus walking trails
Healthy IU—IU's employee wellness program—provides resources for employees, students, and visitors who want to explore the beauty of campus on foot. Select Outdoor Walking Trails on the Healthy IU website to see a map of outdoor walking trails on the IU Bloomington campus.
Campus and city bus service
Safety Escort is a free service available to all IU students and employees who feel unsafe walking alone at night. To request an escort, call 812-855-SAFE.
Emergency call boxes
The IU Bloomington campus has many specially marked outdoor pay phones and emergency call boxes if you need help in an emergency. By pressing a button on an emergency call box, you will immediately be put in direct contact with the IU Police Department.
All residence halls have phones at their main entrances that can be used for emergency calls.
Biking on campus
Riding a bike is one of the best ways to get around campus and Bloomington. It's often quicker than driving a car and offers a unique opportunity to experience IU Bloomington.
See how to register your bike and buy a bike permit on the Bicycle & Motorcycle Permits page.
If you choose to ride a bike, remember that your bike is considered a vehicle. You're responsible for learning and obeying the rules that apply to you as a cyclist.
For additional security of your bicycle, it is recommended cyclists use U-locks or kryptonite chains for securing your bike to a bike rack.
Looking for a great deal on a bike?
