Transportation Demand Management
Making alternative transportation options viable at IU
Transportation Demand Management (TDM) is the practice of influencing travel behavior with the goal of reducing demand for single occupant vehicle use.
In 2012, IU Bloomington conducted a TDM study to better understand employee and student commuting behavior. The study resulted in the creation of a TDM plan for IU Bloomington, which lays out programs to promote alternative forms of transportation for commuting to and from campus, as well as traveling on campus.
The recommended programs encourage, support, and incentivize the use of transportation options such as public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, and walking.
