Bicycle & Motorcycle Permits
IU employees and students who park a bike on campus are required to register the bike with Parking Operations and display a valid Bicycle permit.
How do I buy a permit and register my bike?
There are two ways to buy a bike permit and register your bicycle:
How much does it cost to buy a permit and register my bike?
Bike registration costs $10.00 and covers the cost of the permit—it is a one-time fee for the bike that is registered. If you want to park a different bike on campus, you will need to register it separately.
What are the benefits of registering my bike?
A bicycle can be a major investment, so it's important to protect it by registering your bike with Parking Operations as soon as possible.
Registering your bike can:
- prevent ticketing and impoundment
- help recover your bicycle if lost or stolen
- identify you in case of an accident
Bicycle registration fees go toward improving bike facilities on the IU Bloomington campus.
How do I display my bike permit?
To display your bike permit, simply affix the permit to the frame or front fender of your bike. Do not use magnets, string, tape, or other materials to attach the permit.
Any wheeled vehicle with a gasoline engine (excluding cars and trucks) is considered a motorcycle and must be registered with Parking Operations and display a valid permit.
You may register your motorcycle and buy your permit in person at the Parking Operations office.
How do I display my motorcycle permit?
Place your motorcycle permit on the front fork or fender of your motorcycle so the serial number on the permit is clearly visible and running in a vertical direction.
You may also contact Parking Operations for a plastic holder that allows you to use your car hang tag on your motorcycle.
